ROUTE 80 OVER BERKSHIRE VALLEY ROAD
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The heavily traveled eastbound and westbound bridge structures along Route 80 in Morris County, NJ were replaced while maintaining the exiting travel lanes in each direction by constructing a one-way, three lane temporary bridge structure in the highway’s center median.Once the temporary structure was installed and westbound traffic was diverted to the temporary bridge structure, the existing westbound bridge structure was demolished down to the reinforced concrete piers. New pier caps were constructed and pre-tensioned/pre-stressed concrete beams were installed on the new bearings prior to pouring the new bridge deck.
Once the westbound structure was complete, the same process occurred for the eastbound structure.
Major Work Items: Temporary Bridge Structure, Hot Mix Asphalt Paving, Bridge Demolition, Temporary Shielding, Pier Cap Reconstruction, Pre-tensioned/Pre-stressed Concrete Beams, Structural Steel, Reinforcement Steel, Concrete Bridge Deck – High Performance Concrete and Substructure Concrete Repair.
