COSTCO WHOLESALE
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
In order to comply with Costco Wholesale Corporations’ stringent parking lot pavement specification, Crisdel Group, Inc. and Trap Rock Industries implemented a through quality control program.
In pursuance of fulfilling the specified asphalt requirements for paving the parking lot, Crisdel placed virgin mixes for both the HMA based course, Mix I-2 and HMA surface course, Mix I-5. Throughout the project Crisdel Group, Inc., Trap Rock Industries, and Costco’s representatives’ implemented various methods of quality control and quality assurance testing to ensure that mat densities and air voids were achieved.
The completed asphalt pavement surface was thoroughly compacted, clean and smooth with a “tight-mat” finish per Costco’s requirements. All in-place densities, including joint densities, fell above the allowable 92 percent of the maximum theoretical density according to ASTM D 2041. Cold joints were treated with a polymerized joint sealant to improve overall joint densities. All hot-mix asphalt for onsite paving was designed and tested to meet an air void tolerance of 2 to 8 percent.
